watched pirates of the carribean yesterday night with sugarpie. $5 per person! hehe cheap cheap comopared to outside.. we love jack sparrow! he is so cute... ok the show wasn't really fantastic, i must say.. it was a little too long, at 2.5 hours. the starting part on the island with cannibals was funny and engaging, but later on when it got to the part about davy jones, it was too draggy. too much time spent on creating the atmosphere and too much emphasis on the set. it's not just about too much time spent on the supporting cast (read: anyone besides jack sparrow), but also about sutff that really aren't that interesting, yet isn't exciting either. it starts off with elizabeth's wedding being ruined when beckett captures william, then her, on charges that they had helped convicted pirate jack sparrow escape. apparently beckett wants to make use of will to track down jack and take the special compass (the famous one that doesn't point north). will realises it is a special compass, not just one that is faulty. he agrees to go in search of jack in hopes of bringing back the compass so that he and elizabeth can be freed and reunited. on the other hand, jack gets his hands on a drawing of a key that opens a chest containing something we don't know yet. it is clearly something of importance although the rest of the crew seem disappointed at its lack of 'shininess'. jack runs into some problems navigating using the compass, which we learn is because he doesn't really know where he wants to go, so the compass cannot guide him. one night, jack's old friend bootstrap bill, will's father who was supposed to have drowned, turns up on the black pearl and reminds jack that he owes a blood debt to davy jones, captain of the flying dutchman. bill had agreed to join jones as his crew (meaning, 100 years of slavery) in return for not dying (or not) when he was strapped and sunk by barbossa. apparently, jack had also made a deal with jones. in return for being made captain of the black pearl for 13 years, he also has to join as crew when the 13 years is up. sure, jack only got to be captain for effectively 2 years, but who cares. so now jack has to pay his debt.some background info on jones, he controls the sea monster (i dunno what it's called, can't figure out the spelling), he has tentacles on his head, no nose (so he looks like a cuter and more interesting version of lord voldemort in harry potter and the goblet of fire), crab pincers for hands, and a stick for a leg. he cannot step on land but once every 10 years, though his crew can. which means the ship cannot come to port except in every 10 years. anyway, jack totally freaks out and orders his crew to steer to land. unfortunately, he runs into some trouble on the island, which will manages to get to. a man-eating tribe has captured the crew, ate half of them and hung the rest in a ball off a cliff. they looked upon jack as a man version of god, listen to his instructions but unfortunately will eat him when the time is ripe. when will makes his way onto the island, he is captured as well and thrown in with the rest of the pirates. he learns of jack's predicament and plots to get away and save jack. lots of accidents and mishaps happen, completely hilarious and with great comic timing. the adventures are interesting and engaging, and you hardly realise that this isn't even the main story yet. they finally get away and head off to sea. well as much as jack allows, bcs he is completely freaking out about his debt, and wants to keep as close to land as possible. jack makes his way to look for tia, who not only gave him more information on the key and the chest it opens, but gives him something to bring back: a jar of dirt??! yea you are supposed to know what is does when the time comes. jack cons will into tracking down the flying dutchman and hopping onboard in exchange for his own soul. unfortunately, jones demands another 99 souls on top of will's in exchange for jack's, so jack has to set off in search. meanwhile, will runs into his father on board and learns more about the key and the chest. he steals it and tries to get off the flying dutchman. governer swann tried to break his daughter out of prison and escape the place, but he gets caught. fortunately, elizabeth manages to get away and wring more information out of beckett before leaving in search of will and jack. she makes her way to tortuga where she not only meets jack but also ex-commodore norrington. he is in a pathetic state and decides to get on board the black pearl with jack. jack tricks elizabeth into believing that finding the chest will lead them to saving will, then makes use of her desire to help him navigate using the compass. they finally get to the chest and incidentally, will turns up there-with the key. jack, will and norrington break into a fight over the key. will wants to get the heart and plunge a knife into it so that he can save his father from slavery, but jack will not hear of it bcs otherwise no one would be able to control the sea monster. norrington found out beckett wants to get the heart too, and hopes to bring it to him so that he can regain what he had lost. the three of them fight one another and finally jack opens up the chest, grabds the heart and throws it into the jar of dirt. the flying dutchman crew of sea phantoms catch up and battle with them. norrington chances upon the jar and steals the heart, while will has completely no idea what was going on. eventually, they all escape, norrington grabs the empty chest and tells them he'd rather stay behind and divert the sea phantoms away, and jack sails away with the others thinking he has jone's heart with him. unfortunately, he finds out too late and the black pearl is attacked by the sea monster on jones' instructions. jack manages to escape, but finds out he didn't have the heart to leave his friends and crew behind. he sails back to save them and the crew decide to abandon the ship. unforunately, elizabeth tricks jack using ??? and locks him on the black pearl. she knows that davy jones is after him and his ship, so she wants to leave him there so that the rest of them (more importantly just she and will) can escape safely. the rest of them do not know that jack is being locked behind as elizabeth told them that jack wants to stay back to give them a chance of escaping. will suspects something is wrong, but not what exactly. the black pearl that jack is on gets eaten by the sea monster and jones finally writes off jack's debt. however, he is furious when he realizes that his heart wasn't in the chest his crew managed to bring back. on the other hand, the survivors of the black pearl are devastated that the black pearl was gone, bringing down her captain jack sparrow with her. tia asks them if they are willing to go to lengths to bring him back and introduce them to someone who could help them - barbossa. ok actually that is just the story in short (or long?) bcs i want to remember what happened in this show so that i won't be all lost when i watch the final show. i am looking forward to more of jack. who cares about the story.. hehe.. i can't believe elizabeth could do that to jack. jack was right, she really turned into a pirate. it's hard to imagine how she's going to redeem herself.. posted by Yee 3:04 PM . . .
